Bog Oak Plank With Champagne Gold

£450.00

Our bog oak is from the fens of East Anglia.  It is over 5000 years old and semi-fossilized.  There really is nothing else like it.  The tannins absorbed in the bog give this timber a dark color, while still retaining the warm richness of oak.  Cool and smooth to the touch, it is an amazing thing to hold, a piece of something that was alive in ancient times.

The rough edges of this piece are the edges of the primeval tree limb that it was crafted from.  The bark becomes brittle after it’s time in the bog and this texture is what is underneath.  The roughness of it gives a gorgeous contrast with the metal leaf while giving a real sense of the ancient tree that it was a part of.

Pale and lustrous champagne gold gilding makes this piece simply gorgeous.

This piece measures 23.5 cm long, 14 cm wide and 4 cm deep.  Weight is 950 grams.
